Abstract
This article considers relationships through deep history. While the field is often characterised by expressions of distance or estrangement from the longue durée, this article instead takes as its starting point a reflection on the past as intimate and present today. This form of narrating deep history, expressed from Yawuru Country in and around Broome, presents that history as a site of and a vehicle for connection. Written collaboratively, this article considers language as a site of research into deep history and as a means of relating to that history, the articulation of deep connections across space through ceremony and exchange, and the everyday experience of engagement with deep history through narrated encounters with bulany or sea-snakes who are also forces of creation.
