Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Abstract

Generative AI relies on finding reverse models for linear discrete time forward diffusions with non-Gaussian initial states, but uses indirect methods for reversal as there is no theory for direct reversal in discrete time. We give sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of a reverse time diffusion and give a method of meeting them. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for the reverse model to be input-affine.
