Diagnostic safety submission to the first consultation on National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (third edition)

Abstract

What existing and emerging safety and quality risks should the Commission be considering in the third edition? We strongly recommend the NSQHS Standards (third edition) include diagnostic safety as a standalone standard addressing diagnostic safety (Option 1), which represents our preferred approach. An alternative approach would be to integrate specific diagnostic safety criteria and actions across existing standards (Option 2), though this would provide less visibility and awareness for diagnostic safety as a distinct patient safety priority.
