Abstract

Radiocarbon dates show that there has been a marked resurgence in bog growth, hence an increase in effective precipitation, after c3500 BP at Brown Marsh on the Central Plateau of Tasmania. Since this parallels developments in highland mires of Victoria and southern NSW, the underlying cause is likely to be a regional decrease in mean temperature.-Authors
