Abstract

This introduction to Cognitive Semantics and Religion provides an overview of the contributions to this special issue. It explains how nsm, and its more recent development Minimal Languages (e.g. Minimal English) can shed light on problems of translation in biblical linguistics, and in understanding Christian concepts and ideas. The paper points to the long nsm tradition of exploring Christianity through universal human concepts and discusses how this tradition seeks to bring a new clarity to the understanding of Christian faith.
