Abstract
Within the past two decades both Britain and Australia
haue experienced resource booms; Britain with North Sea Oil and
Australia with its growth in the mining sector. As is well known
now from the literature, such booms can increase a country's
welfare, but they do bring adjustment problems. The central
problem is that of the "Dutch Disease", which refers to the
adverse effects of a boom on the tradables sector, including
manufacturing.
