Abstract

One of the four blocks which comprise Burton Hall, a hall of residence 'recently completed' on the western boundary of the site of the Australian National University. Burton Hall accommodates 250 students and members of staff in individual study-bedrooms. Each of the residential blocks contains laundry facilities and a small common room for making tea and coffee, but Burton Hall residents will share the dining and recreation facilities of a central block with residents of Garran Hall, a second hall of residence, now (in 1965) under construction. Keith and Bartlett Pty Ltd of Melbourne and Canberra, designed the halls of residence after the University had made an extensive survey of student accommodation in Britain, the United States and Australia.
