Abstract

Sir Leslie Galfreid Melville was Professor of Economics at the University of Adelaide from 1929 to 1931 and held several positions in the Treasury and Commonwealth Bank before becoming Vice-Chancellor of the University in 1953. He was subsequently Chairman of the Australian Tariff Board, a member of the Development Advisory Service of the International Bank and, from 1966 to 1974, Chairman of the Commonwealth Grants Commission.
