Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

View from a grassy slope of a plain and low hills with in the distance, the mountains of the Brindabella Range. The foreground land is mostly fenced paddocks with eucalyptus trees in the lower left and willows and poplars towards the centre. The university's site had been chosen by Canberra's planner, Walter Burley Griffin in his 1912 prize-winning design for the federal capital. He had sited it at the foot of Black Mountain to the west of Civic Centre and on the northern shore of the future Lake Burley Griffin. This photograph is from an album that was held at the London office of the Australian National University over the period 1949 to 1952. The album was used to inform prospective staff about Canberra. These images are part of the series produced by the Department of Information and kept at the National Archives of Australia in Canberra. National Archives holdings in this series have gaps and some images may be held only at the ANU Archives.en_AU
