Abstract

Sir Keith Hancock, Honorary Fellow and 'Founding Father' of University House, plants the Hancock Oak on the lawn outside the front entrance of University House. The sapling was grown from an acorn which Sir Keith brought back with him from a visit to his old college, St John's, Cambridge. Looking at the planting ceremony are (from left); Emeritus Professor Ian Beveridge (Steward, University House), Mr Colin Steele (University Librarian and Fellow of University House), Mrs Kath Wellman (Curator of Grounds, ANU), Lady Hancock, Emeritus Professor Ralph Elliott (Master of University House).
