Abstract
Artist Sidney Nolan is the first holder of the Australian National University's shorter-term fellowships in the Creative Arts, which are intended to enable distinguished artists, usually from abroad and including Australian 'expatriates', to be associated with the University for a short time. One of the painters credited with starting the contemporary art revolution in Australian art just before the second world war, Mr Nolan became one of the best-known Australian painters working in Britain. He is represented in the major Australian galleries, the Tate gallery of London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In 1963 Mr Nolan was awarded the CBE for his services to Australian art.
