Established in 1993, the Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) was created to enable university students from Canberra, Australia and the rest of the world to undertake internships within the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia and other national institutions. At the time, Professor Richard Campbell stated that the aims of the program were to "make available country wide, through a genuinely national scheme, the unique experiences attainable only in the national capital." Over the ensuing two decades, more than 1,700 students have undertaken an ANIP internship.
