Abstract

The first World Trade Organization (WTO) review of the Solomon Islands held in September 1998 (WTO 1999) provides timely insights into the severe problems currently confronting its economy. This note examines this review, highlighting important economic policy issues that emerged for the Solomon Islands. In so doing, it offers lessons on how other island economies within the Asia Pacific region might go about reforming their own economic policies.
