| dc.description.abstract | The proposal to base this research in the Riverina came from Dr. David Denholm who is a ready source of good ideas. The research was made possibl0 by the generous offer from the Riverina College of Advanced .Education of a Fellowship. The contribution made by the RCAE staff and students is hard to measure. I am especially indebted to the clear memory and the unstinted labour of John Winterbottom of RCAE Archives. The Department of Prehistory and Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, ANU, offered every needed support including funds for aerial photography and willing undergraduates. Ken Heffernan's zeal enlivened many days of fieldwork. Karen Edwards printed all the photographs. Ms. V. Lyon of the Geography Department turned my sketches into illustrations. The Geology Department of ANU kindly offered me a desk and delicate equipment to analyse the surface collection. The collection and related field notes will be deposited with the Archives of the Riverina College of Advanced Education. Research materials were cheerfully provided by the staff of the New South Wales Department of Educat2on, the Department of Mines, the Lands Department and the Office of the Crown Heg2strar. The staff of the Wagga Wagga Lands Board also made a number of suggestions on how best to decode the Board's early filing system, which is a study in itself. I am grateful for permission to use material held by the Archives Office of New South Wales, Australia Post and the Mitchell Library. The continuing courtesy of Mr. Vann Cremer of the Australia Post Historical Section, and of the staff in the Canberra Office of the Division of National Mapping are much appreciated. Mr. Ian Farrington took on the strenuous r6le of supervisor. His energy and enthusiasm have been a constant influence. | en_AU |
