Abstract

In October 1997 The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Family and Community Affairs recommended the design and deployment of a national health information system based on integrated health records. The implementation of such a large-scale proposal requires an understanding of the complex political, economic, legal, technical, and cultural issues that would affect the form of such an endeavour. <p> This report describes an investigation which attempted to gather an understanding of these issues. The investigaton is a preliminary stage of a project aimed at developing a system model for the national health information system recommended by the House of Representatives Committee.
