A national research university : the origins and early years of The Australian National University

Abstract

The idea of this present piece of work grew out of some earlier work which I did on behalf of the Registrar of the Australian National University. I was employed then to locate and collect materials relating to the origins of the University. Although the University itself has substantial Archives in which some of the papers relating to establishment were consulted, a great deal of such material was located elsewhere, in departmental records kept by the then Commonwealth Office of Education, Sydney, in the C.S.I.R.O. Archives, Melbourne, and in collections of personal and other papers held by the National Library of Australia.
