Abstract

This thesis examines both the response of the Wollongong labour movement to the depression of the 1930s, and the influence of the depression experience upon the movement's organisation 3ttitudes and actions in the years 1928-39. Accordingly, conclusions have been drawn about the relationship between working and living conditions and the changing political and industrial demands of Wollongong workers. Even so, the thesis does not purport to be either a social history of Wollongong workers or a history of labour.
