dc.description.abstractThis is a comparative study of State-municipal fiscal relations, with particular reference to New South Wales in Australia and West Bengal in India. After outlining the broad structural features of municipal authorities and the framework of State- municipal transfer arrangements, the study con centrates on the operative aspects of intergovern mental fiscal relations in a sub-national context. The results of the study indicate commonalities as well as differences in the transfer arrangements, including the role of federal institutions in financing municipal government.en_AU
