Abstract

The thesis is in three parts. The first and last are studies, in some depth, of economic, social and political life in Riverina in 1861 and 1891» Between these two set pictures is a broad connecting strand covering the main issue in the intervening period: the struggle for land and the changing pattern of land ownership.
