Abstract

This book considers a number of recent developments and issues affecting Australian public sector borrowing, including: criteria for borrowing; the present and future role of the Australian Loan Council; the relationship between public sector borrowing requirements and public debt management, the role of the Reserve Bank with respect to the relationship between government borrowing operations, monetary policy and the marketing of Commonwealth securities; and the role of the market in meeting the borrowing requirements of different levels of government and different kinds of public authorities.
