dc.description.abstractThe call for papers for this issue of craft + design enquiry invited articles which addressed the resurgence of interest in connections between craft, material and memory in the context of global change. It is easy to see this interest as a reflection of a similar impetus in the nineteenth century, when the Arts and Crafts movement’s framing of handmaking in the context of tradition and continuity provided a comforting antidote to the storm of change and dislocation which modernity brought to Europe.
