Citizen Perceptions of the Socio-Ecological Value of the Eastern Hills of Bogota: A Place-Based Ecosystem Service Assessment
Abstract
Due to widespread deterioration of ecosystems and their subsequent reduced capacity to provide for human wellbeing, decision makers seek to understand how to better manage natural resources to produce a more sustainable future. Integrated assessment of natural and human systems is regarded as a way to facilitate such change, and effective engagement of stakeholders is recognised as a key requirement of such an assessment. Although there are many engagement processes, for special interest groups, there is difficulty in understanding how a broader citizenry may understand and value natural areas.
