Abstract

A systematic study has been made of the alpha capture reaction on ls2d and lf2p shell nuclei at excitation energies in the region of the giant dipole resonance (GDR). The purpose of the study was to provide further evidence for the proposed isospin splitting of the GDR, and to investigate the role of isospin selection rules in the (α,γ) reaction.
