Abstract

This study is concerned with problems of land shortage and population pressure , both l)resent and future , in the Kingdom of Tonga, an independent monarchy under the protection of Great Britain in western Polynesia. Since the relationships between men and land lie at the root of Tonga's problems, the major part of this thesis consists of an analysis of these relationships , and of the operation of the land tenure system .
