The present dissertation is a biographical study of the Xiii century statesman and scholar Yeh-lu Ch'u-ts'ai (1189-1243). It is an attempt to refine our understanding of the life, career and thought of this eminent figure in the history of Asia in the light of his own writings and of contemporary accounts. At the same time it is intended to serve as a preliminary investigation to a major work on the early culture contacts between the Mongols and the Chinese.en_AU
