dc.description.abstract	This survey provides background to the economy of Solomon Islands and examines factors relating to the country?s economic development. It points to fundamental hurdles to economic progress, and stresses that while ethnic conflict was an important reason for the current economic decline, many of the difficulties of the past 10 years can be attributed to more fundamental causes.	en_AU
