Abstract

This thesis examines the rise of non-partisan wheatgrowers' organisations and their attempts to persuade governments to introduce desired policies. The period covered extends from the foundation in 1927 of the first of the non-partisan organisations to the realisation in 1948 of their primary objective — an Australia-wide marketing and price support plan for wheat.
