Abstract

"Since the conflict of the 1980s, New Caledonia is often presented as a haven of stability in the region, in comparison to neighbouring Melanesian countries like Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. But this paper will argue that there are cultural, political and social tensions in New Caledonia, and the issue of peace building and reconciliation is just as relevant today for the French dependency as for neighbouring independent countries." - page 1
