| dc.description.abstract | The present government in Papua New Guinea has decided to make privatisation one of its top priorities. It has two reasons for doing so - to raise revenue in order to retire existing debt, and because it sees the continuation of government ownership as an inefficient way of providing services. The sheer act of privatisation will not bring about all the things the government wants to achieve. The emotional issues of ownership will need to be addressed by ensuring maximum transparency in asset sales and by giving all Papua New Guineans an opportunity to participate in the process. | en_AU |
