Abstract

From pole to pole the Earth encompasses a dazzling variety of communities of plants and animals that share characteristics that help them thrive in their particular environments. Yet many of these environments are changing, and changing rapidly, under the influence of changing climate. These changes have an impact on human health which cannot be ignored. We are Dr Aparna Lal and Dr Alice Richardson, early-mid career researcher sin the National Centre for Epidemiology & Population Health at ANU. Our own expertise in is biology, ecology, statistical methodology and statistical applications. We design studies that link existing data sets in order to discover new relationships between the environment, culture and the health of populations. We use statistical and mathematical models which we fit using statistical packages such as R, Stata and SAS. We also recognise the importance of human experience of culture and environment, and the constraints that this lived experience may place around maintaining health. We are passionate about working in teams that combine quantitative and qualitative approaches to that most important attribute of populations - health.
