Abstract
An advertisement that incorporates a painting of Messrs. Dunkley and party driving a truck up a steep, rough track. The vehicle's progress is watched by three men including an Aboriginal man with a spear. In the distance can be seen a camel driver and his camels. The truck which set off on its trip in July 1925 has signs on it announcing that this is the: '1st Commercial Motor Test Thro. Central Australia.' Although the laden machine shod with Dunlop pneumatic cord tyres weighed 6 1/2 tons, it successfully completed the pioneer truck drive across 2000 miles of difficult terrain. A.E.C. trucks were so named because they were supplied by the Associated Equipment Company in Britain that had been set up to re-use the large numbers of Four Wheel Drive vehicles left in Europe after World War I. The main caption includes: 'A remarkable achievement. 6 1/2 Tons Cross Australia from Adelaide to Darwin, on Dunlop Cord Tyres.'
