Abstract

Description

This photograph was taken at Suabi settlement, Baiya (Cecilia) River, Nomad River District, Western Province, Papua New Guinea. David Eastburn took the original Polaroid photograph in 1979. Peter D. Dwyer (1937-) of the University of Melbourne photographed the now deteriorated image 32 years later. Two of the boys in the print taken by David Eastburn at Koroba, in front of his Suzuki ‘Brute’ 4WD, are: Lukas Foifoin and Diona (Jonah) Towambi from the Febi language group. A third Febi boy was not named (it is believed that he had died before 2011 when the photograph of the print was taken) and the unnamed fourth boy was a member of the Bogaya language group who acted as an interpreter.
