Description
This temple was built shortly after the Kailasanatha, but has a different lay-out. It may have been a prototype, from which other temples were derived. The architect may have attempted to modify Dravidian style with a new technique. It consists of three super-imposed sanctuaries, situated in the different storeys of the building. These storeys are of the same size, but with miniature buildings surrounding them. The vimana is surrounded by a covered gallery with supporting pillars, carved in the shape of seated lions. Bas-reliefs around the gallery depict historical events, according to Prof. Jouveau-Dubreuil it is a Vaisnavite [sic] temple. -- View of the covered gallery.
