Another motif, in which both men and women took great interest, was their pastime with parrots, not unfamiliar to art in the Sunga period, The tame little bird is illustrative of a happy, joyful existence in both man and beast and reflects a mildly paradisiac surrounding wherever it appears, Parrots were common pets in Indian households and were looked upon as affectionately as we might on our own domestic pets, From the standpoint of treatment, again there is evidence of some geometric detail around the eyes and simple shapes which form the faces of the Yakshi and Yaksha, Round convex spheres form the basic sculptural planes which are left quite full and subtly modelled, -- Mathura, Curzon Museum,
