Abstract

Vanuatu, like many emerging South Pacific nations, is focusing on facilitating economic growth by developing its private sector, which necessarily involves a clear enunciation of an overarching theoretical framework that can be coupled with pragmatic strategies. This paper adopts a multi-disciplinary perspective to examine the theoretical and practical dimensions involved. First, it develops a theoretical framework for governance aimed at private-sector development in emerging economies. Second, it considers the main areas of reform necessary to facilitate economic growth; in particular, canvassing strategies that are suited to the socio-political context of Vanuatu.
