| dc.description.abstract | 本文追溯了中國人移民東南亞的早期歷史，並仔細考察了這一地區的中國拓荒 者與英國鴉片貿易之間的關系。本文強調了地處暹羅灣和馬來半島的數個“水域邊疆”的殖 民地的重要性。文章認為，鴉片不僅改變了這一地區華商與華僑勞工之間的關系，而且是華 商與殖民政權長期合作的基石，其具體表現便是富有的華商成為當地的鴉片包稅商。文章特 別指出，土生華人，尤其是在新加坡以及其它海峽殖民地的土生華人，十九世紀時成為在東 南亞崛起的鴉片專賣企業集團中的關鍵人物 | |
