The building features walls of inlaid rough stone highlighted by white-painted window surrounds, pilasters and front entrance façade. On the left is a bell-ringing tower made of tree trunks. The monastery was founded as a mission for Aborigines in 1846 by two Spanish Benedictine monks, Fathers Salvado and Serra.
