| dc.description | Photographer's note: A dull rumbling gradually increases to a roar and suddenly, a dry moss-lined stream-bed erupts into a 35-metre-wide river. The water comes to the surface under such pressure that it wells up to almost a metre above the water-level of the surrounding pool – and much higher after heavy rains on Muller Range above. Much of the water probably originated from the slopes of Mt Karoma (3 623 metres ASL), the highest point of the Muller Range, to emerge at around 200 metres ASL, after flowing through a system of limestone caves. This photograph was taken at a location marked as "rapids" on 1: 100 000 Karoma map sheet 7386. Universal grid reference: 54M XU454573. (longitude 144 19 E. Latitude 5 49 S.) | |
