The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Abstract

The daughter of a pastoralist and of independent means, Rose Scott devoted her life to improving women's lives. She was foundation secretary of the Women's Suffrage League of NSW and campaigned vigorously for separate prisons for women. She strongly opposed Federation.
