Many smaller shrines were constructed as subsidiary to the Nandi Temple in the Kailasnath [sic], each one a unified sculptural work in itself. The decorational system of the present example is both similar and dissimilar to the Nandi shrine proper, for it uses the figures-between-columns paneling for its facade decoration and then builds a pyramidal structure of secondary carving immediately above it. In this respect, it resembles Pallavan architecture (such as in the Dharmaraja Rath at Mahamallapuram), which towers sculptural features into a mountain-like collection for its roofing principles too. Again we notice that the base of the shrine has been raised considerably, and a chaitya niche design has been placed over the door as in the main temple.
