Description

Tradition established in the sixteenth century for the decoration of the margins of the finer manuscripts. All-over patterns but with a coherent ascent from trees below to a sky filled with birds and clouds. Clouds are drawn in the margins of these manuscripts in the same style, often in gold with blue edges as here. The animal drawing is sympathetic and the trees decorative
but the compositions are disorganised and the figures too large. -- 9.5 x 6.375".
