Abstract
Description
This cave, of which an inscription tells us that it was excavated in 578, has a frontal gallery, decorated with 6 rectangular pillars, carved with delightful medallions and brackets representing couples. The columns, with their turban capitals and the ribbed support of the entablature, are reminiscent of the older Ellora caves. The sanctuary gives on to the entrance. On the left of the gallery is a statue of Visnu seated on the 7-headed serpent. At his feet is a frieze of dwarfs. The sandstone formation of the hill shows streaks which are visible on the columns and on the carvings.
