Abstract
Description
This buffalo, often found with a philosopher or youth sitting on its back, is a common motif in Ming art. Here the rider has been lost, leaving a hole in the animal's back. The metal surface is smooth and shiny, probably inspired by the famous bronzes of the Husan-te (Xuande) period. -- 12 x 21 cm.
