Six Hour Day procession, Sydney
Abstract
Photograph of a truck-drawn float bearing an Operative Bakers' Association banner supported by a framework. Also in the procession are two giant baker effigies and men in suits and hats. The banner's imagery includes two bakers clasping hands above a bushel of wheat. The slogan above the handclasp is: United to Assist, not to Injure. The legible writing on a placard attached to the truck's side reads: Support Day Baking, Abolish the 10 Hour Night. Another sign states that: Bread is the best Diet of All. The truck has Mason & Moat written on it. The effigies are two men dressed in white robes with enormous smiling heads crowned with bakers' caps. Onlookers can be seen behind vegetation lining the road. The street at this point is not lined by high buildings and it is possible that the photograph was taken as the parade approached the Domain.
