Abstract
Description
Not only were the drainage systems well engineered at Mohenjo-daro, but also the heating systems: particularly that at the 'Temple' or 'Great Bath,' not, however, shown here, The Indus people were probably the first to design 'central' heating: a centrally located furnace from which live-coals could be transported to the other rooms by means of the peculiar perforated pots which then radiated heat to the rest of the house, (See slide 15 for example of perforated vase), The use of fired brick made it easy for the Indus inhabitants to thus employ the same material for both heating and water systems, Neither Egypt nor Mesopotamia were advanced enough at this same time to make such varied use of one material Egypt, in fact, did not make extensive use of baked brick until Roman times,
