Abstract
Description
This side of the stele is devoted to the religious aspect. Eannatum was only victorious because the gods themselves came down and took a hand. Two crowns point to the presence of the goddesses Ianann & Bau (?). But the mighty figure of Ningirsu, tutelary god of Lagash, dominates the scene. In his right hand he lifts the stone mace with which he is about to bludgeon the luckless warriors trapped in the wide-meshed net held in his left hand, which also grips the symbolic emblem (a lion-headed eagle and two lions), Im-dugud, of Ningirsu. Little remains of a small god in his company or of a chariot scene in the lower register. -- fragment scattered in the area of the palace mound, tell K & I, limestone, h : 1.8 m (Paris, Louvre).
