Abstract

Scene of a large Mail horsedrawn carriage with many passengers and a covered horsedrawn cart on a country road. Mount Macedon is in the background. Three men watch the vehicles from the sides of the road. There are planks of wood and a post-and-rail fence in the foreground. The Bush Inn which became the site for the town of Gisborne, was a popular stop for diggers on the second night of their journey from Melbourne to the goldfields. The road past Mount Macedon and through the Black Forest was noted for its bushrangers. The lagoon known as Wrights' Lagoon was later drained and for some years was used as a race-course.
