Abstract
Description
Another characteristic of Ghandaran Buddha images is the happy facial expression which is shared by the other figures appearing with the master as well, Unlike the Mauryan reliefs which also dealt with the Jatakas, all the figures in the Ghandaran scenes are fully absorbed in their activities and do seem to communicate with each other, Shown here is one of the many offering scenes from Buddha's long journeys, We notice how all pay willing obeisance to the Buddha and how warmly he receives this respect in return, This is in keeping with the humanistic nature of Buddha operant in the feelings of the people at this time, Buddha's theistic images even bear this familiarity to some extent,
