dc.descriptionThis great stupa (thupa) has been restored in the last century, largely through contributions from Burma. It is revered as housing some of the most precious relics of the Buddha, including his collar-bone. It is now about the size of the original, some three hundred feet in diameter at the base, and almost as high. In the foreground are seen the stone pillars which originally served as the frames for the brick monastery buildings at Anuradhapura. At one time there were more than 5,000 Bhikkhus living near the many dagobas of Anuradhapura.
