All the cells of Udayagiri are surmounted, not by a horseshoe arch, as in caves in the west, but by a semi-circular arch, decorated with flowers, and usually flanked on either side by human figures or animals, in this case, elephants, Wooden awnings, now disappeared, were added to the rock over the cell, The entrances to the cells were low, No [sic] shafts or windows lit it, [formerly IA-461, number crossed out and replaced with IA-432]
